Greenstone is excited to announce the winners' of our Back to School competition. Craig aged 14 and Phillip aged 13 who were nominated by Mr Basil and Mrs Denise Whitehead have won school supplies to the value of R10 000.
Choosing a winner in the Back to School 2012 competition proved to be a difficult task but it was heart-warming to witness that the community still cared to nominate a deserving family or child even though they would get no reward in return.
The boys' father passed away early 2011 and they have since been in the care of their uncle Mr Whitehead. Craig attends The Doug Whitehead School and Phillip attends the Yeoville Community School. Even though members of their extended family are pitching in to help, it has been financially challenging.
The family has applied through a social worker at Epworth Childrens Home for assistance but are very grateful to have won as the prize will ease the financial strain. A big thank you goes out to the tenants who sponsored the prizes and helped make a difference in these children's lives.

Cadburys Eggsciting Easter Exploration
Cadbury's and The Citizen newspaper held their Easter Exploration for the second year running at Greenstone on Saturday the 16th of April.
Children between the ages of 6 - 16 had to answer 5 questions of which the answers were on Cadbury posters in selected store windows. Stores that stock Cadbury Chocolates or Bic Stationary held clues that had to be found by the children. The stores selected were; PNA, Game, Pick n Pay, Woolworths and Clicks. All correct entries received a Cadbury goodie bag which contained a Cadbury branded lunch box and fruit holder with Cadbury chocolates and Bic Felt pens. The entries went into a draw where one lucky customer stood the chance of winning a Puzey Quad Bike.
Cadbury organised Mr Magic to entertain children in the area and offered an instant photo opportunity with Cousin Charlie Chomp, Chappie the Chipmunk and Caramello Bear. An MC was present to encourage entries.
Build a Bear workshop held an out of store workshop in the Ster Kinekor court, where kids could create their own bear and stand a chance to win a birthday party if they spent R250 or more. 4 year old Kianna Pinto – Duarto was the lucky winner out of 250 entries received.

R50 000 Greenstone Gift Card Winner
Greenstone Shopping Centre is excited to announce Mrs Coby Bell from Kempton Park as the winner of the R50 000 gift card prize in our Christmas competition.
Customers had to spend R200 or more at any Greenstone store or purchase a Greenstone gift card to the same value or more to stand a chance of winning the R50 000 Greenstone gift card. An entry form had to be completed where a till slip had to be attached to qualify. The competition was from the 26 November to 20 December.
Christmas Wish
Greenstone Shopping Centre Management, Pick n Pay Hyper Greenstone and 94.7 Highveld stereo recently granted Ursula and Nathan Bent with their Christmas wish. R18 000 in Greenstone vouchers as well as R18 000 in Pick n Pay vouchers were issued to the family to assist them during their difficult time. Greenstone's Zakumi finds a new home at Nobel Primary School
Greenstone ran a customer survey among 15 primary schools in the area recently and a R5000 Gift card was awarded to the school with the most responses received. The centre was pleased to announce that Nobel Primary was the overall winner with an almost 100% response rate to the survey.
Another R1000 prize went to Mr Abraham Van Wyk and his son Shaun who are the parent and child from the school who completed the survey. The effort, enthusiasm and sense of community shown by Mr Van Vuuren, the school principal in his approach to the project was deserving of an additional reward in the form of Zakumi, the official World Cup mascot as a keepsake to motivate Mr Van Vuuren and his team of teachers and parents to let the great spirit of the 2010 Fifa World Cup live on in the school and all of us. Greenstone donates to Sizwe Primary School
As part of its 3rd Birthday Celebration, Greenstone Shopping Centre donated a cheque of R16 000 to Sizwe Primary School in Sandringham to assist the schools’ children ahead of the winter season.
Priya Singh who is the principle at the school works with lots of dedication and enthusiasm to create a happy and child friendly environment for many children suffering from TB infections under their care. The school looks after children between the ages of 2 to17 years who are given treatment for TB and they stay at the school for periods of atleast 6 – 8 months sometimes longer to complete their treatment.
The Gauteng Department of Education, the Principle, staff and the SGB members thanked Greenstone for the donation and confirmed that the money will be used for winter school uniforms and assistive devises for the children.
Greenstone Celebrates its 3rd Birthday with an Amazing Dash, 27 April
Greenstone Shopping Centre’s 3rd Birthday celebration took place on 27 April with exciting entertainment lined up and an Amazing Dash around the centre. Thirty entrants each brought a partner to help them decipher the cryptic clues they were given to answer and verify by obtaining a stamp from the twenty participating stores in a period of an hour.
Comedian and Survivor SA’s Darren Maule was the MC for the event. There was a colourful variety of dance on display such as Capoeira, belly dancing, free styling, hip hop presented to the crowds’ delight by Universal Dance Centre. Greenstone also treated the audience to a diski dance lesson and it proved an enjoyable activity for all.
The three winning teams managed to complete the race in twenty minutes and were rewarded with R20 000 in Greenstone gift cards plus another R20 000 in store sponsored prizes such flowers for a year, clothing, jewellery, meals and other store vouchers to share. The winners were: first place Chris Wilson and his partner Marietta, in second place Candice Smith and her partner Rob and in third place, Gillian Petersen and partner Trevor. Saturday, 13th February saw 16 winners from the mall’s SMS Competition treated to an indulgent dinner at Cappuccinos. The evening began with a fun game of bowling at Superbowling which provided the perfect environment for our winners to get to know each other a little better. The winning teams scored prizes from Smith’s Jewellers, Books Galore and Harringtons of London. Our guests then moved to Cappuccinos where they found a beautifully laid setting for the three course dinner they enjoyed with lots of champagne and good company. Greenstone Shopping Centre celebrated Women's Day with 100 lucky customers who; after spending over R150 in the mall on the Sunday, qualified for a R100 Greenstone gift card as well as a treatment from Mangwanani Bashewa Spa voucher which was redeemable in our Sterns court. Passport to a World of Food
Congratulations to Karin Pegters - Fourie winner of R10 000 meals for a year in Greenstone Shopping Centre's Passport to a World of Food Competition. To enter customers had to eat at three participating restaurants and takeaways offering various specials over a three month period from 1 May - 31 July 2009 and use a passport that was available in the centre to receive stamps to qualify to win. The prize was made up of R5000 in restaurant vouchers and R5000 Greenstone gift card.
Greenstone Winter Sidewalk Sale
As part of Greenstone's Winter Sidewalk Sale which was from 24 July to 2 August, customers were requested to donate any clothing, shoes, accessories, toys etc to those in need. Collection boxes were provided at our Info kiosks and the goods were donated to Little Eden.
Little Eden in Edenvale houses 300 special children with intellectual disability were very grateful to the community for the donation. The home will utilize most of the goods in their charity shop. A big thank you to all our customers for their generous contributions.
Our Terrific 2’s Birthday Celebration, March 1 – April 30
A total of R40 000 was given away in centre vouchers when Greenstone celebrated its 2nd Birthday. Hyundai 1.6 GLS Hatch Competition winner announced
Heartfelt Congratulations to Mrs Zubeida Cole from Kempton Park on being the proud winner of the snazzy Hyundai 1.6 GLS Hatch in our December Competition. She beat nine other finalists who were drawn on the 11th of December and invited to take part in the car give-away on the 17th of December. They were : Mr Santo Benigno, Mrs Kathleen Davies, Mrs Deborah Manairam, Miss Pranisha Govender, Mrs Juliet Lehutjo, Mr Fernando Pinto, Mrs Julie-Anne Crossy and Mr Walter Selbo. Edenvale Resident Wins A Spring Makeover Worth R5000 - September
Mrs Sonia de Melim, a 46 year old shopper from Edenvale was the lucky winner of a stunning spring makeover following the centre's Spring Fling promotion which recently came to a close!
The Double Your Chances Competition draw was held on Thursday, the 9th August 2007 during the Women's Day Concert. The event culminated in the announcement of Johann Jacobs and Stefan Booysen being announced as the two winners of the three month till-slip competition, that ran from April to the end of July.
