The Gift in a Box campaign target of 1000 boxes was reached and handed over to the charities on Monday 1 August. In a small ceremony in the Centre court, all four charities namely Compass House, Sos Children's Village, Edenvale Care Centre and Manna Centre of concern were present to receive the generous donations by the public and Greenstone tenants.
The winners were also announced; Best Exhibitor – Amika Hair Straighteners, Best Company: Lyncon Constructors, Best Tenant – Sorbet and the four winners were: Caryl Wright, Mr Dinkelacker, Theresa Naidoo and Cheleigh Matthews.
Greenstone Shopping Centre and Bedfordview Edenvale News teamed up for a blanket drive from 1 May – 30 June.
Customers were asked to donate blankets for the underprivileged in the community to be handed over at the end of May and June. 447 blankets were handed over to the Salvation Army of which 300 were from The Hub who held an in store drive where customers were encouraged to purchase blankets in their store and donate to the collection. Thank you to all who gave generously to the worthy cause.
Greenstone donated R10 000 to Compass after their Home for abused women and children burnt down in December.
In addition, Centre Management and Pick n Pay also donated Toys and snacks for kids.
Christmas Wish
Greenstone Shopping Centre Management, Pick n Pay Hyper Greenstone and 94.7 Highveld stereo recently granted Ursula and Nathan Bent with their Christmas wish. R18 000 in Greenstone vouchers as well as R18 000 in Pick n Pay vouchers were issued to the family to assist them during their difficult time. We hope that the family had a wonderful Christmas and best of luck for the future.
Greenstone donates to Sizwe Primary School
As part of its 3rd Birthday Celebration, Greenstone Shopping Centre donated a cheque of R16 000 to Sizwe Primary School in Sandringham to assist the schools’ children ahead of the winter season.
Priya Singh who is the principle at the school works with lots of dedication and enthusiasm to create a happy and child friendly environment for many children suffering from TB infections under their care. The school looks after children between the ages of 2 to17 years who are given treatment for TB and they stay at the school for periods of atleast 6 – 8 months sometimes longer to complete their treatment.
The Gauteng Department of Education, the Principle, staff and the SGB members thanked Greenstone for the donation and confirmed that the money will be used for winter school uniforms and assistive devises for the children.
Greenstone Winter Sidewalk Sale
As part of Greenstone's Winter Sidewalk Sale which was from 24 July to 2 August, customers were requested to donate any clothing, shoes, accessories, toys etc to those in need. Collection boxes were provided at our Info kiosks and the goods were donated to Little Eden.
Little Eden in Edenvale houses 300 special children with intellectual disability were very grateful to the community for the donation. The home will utilize most of the goods in their charity shop. A big thank you to all our customers for their generous contributions.
Christmas Charity Drive
As part of Greenstone’s Charity Gift Wrapping service for 2008, a total of R27 000 was raised with the proceeds going to the following organizations:
Lombardy Methodist Church Pre-School, Rand Aid’s Thembalami Care Centre
for the elderly and Edenvale Care Centre.
